Donut making

IMG_2644.JPGDonuts
On Thursday the year 6 did cooking while the year 7 and 8’s were at the high school for technology. We went down to the library at 9:30 after kapa haka. We made donuts.  We were there to learn to cook donuts.

IMG_2652.JPGFirst of all we were set out into three groups. My group had Morgan and Lily. Second thing we did was read the recipe so we know what we were doing. We had all of the ingredients the ingredients  were butter, flour, sugar, milk, baking powder and eggs.

IMG_2649.JPG First thing we did was measure the flour out we measured 1 cup and ½ cup of flour and put it into a mixing bowl. Then we added ½ cup of sugar into the mixing bowl. Next we added 1 teaspoon of baking powder and then half a teaspoon of baking powder. Then we combined all together and made a well in the middle. Next we added 9 tablespoons of butter into a cup and then we put into a microwave for 30 seconds. After the butter was added we cracked an egg open and beaten slightly. Last but not least we added the egg in and mixed all of it together.

IMG_2643.JPGThen we let heat up for a couple of minutes. Once the batter was done we sprayed the donut maker with some canola oil so then the donut mixture wouldn't get burnt. Then we got a spoon full of batter and put into the slots very carefully so we didn't burn ourselves. Then we waited for it to cook which had taken not very long at all but the bigger donut maker took a little bit longer than the smaller one. Once it was cooked we used a plastic fork to take the donuts out so then we wouldn't burn ourselves even though I think that some of us did get burnt it really hurt. We laid the donuts onto paper towels and used the rest of the batter.

IMG_2646.JPGOnce we used up all the batter we were able to put some whip cream on them. Finally we were able to eat them they were delicious. Once we all had enough it was morning tea time but we all decided to stay in and make a second batch for the other classrooms. After we delivered handing the donuts out for each class we started to clean up. We washed the dishes and wiped the bench.

I really liked the donuts and had so much fun learning to make them. I thought that they were really yummy and a nice treat.
